Apple Bread

Frosted Apple Cinnamon Bread

This moist, apple-flavored quick bread makes a great fall breakfast or snack.

This is a great holiday gift or thank-you for family and friends. It tastes like apple fritters and sweet apple cake with a cinnamon roll.

This fantastic recipe is almost impossible to resist.

The spiced cinnamon-sugar apple loaf does not require yeast. The leftovers can also be frozen on a rainy or Sunday day.

Your kitchen will be filled with the aroma of homemade apple pie and classic Cinnabon right out of your oven.

Apple bread from Grandma

This recipe is adapted directly from my grandmother’s famous Dutch Apple Bread.

When I was a child, her apple loaf cake was always a favorite in my family. It was always served at family holiday gatherings because we begged her to bake it.

It’s still the best apple cake recipe I have ever tried. The batter is packed with two cups of apple chunks, and the cinnamon sugar swirl makes it irresistible.

Homemade apple loaf ingredients

This recipe only requires a few ingredients you may already have in your home.

You will need flour, baking powder, baking soda, finely diced apple, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, oil, or applesauce to make this recipe.

The photos show Braeburn apple bread. You can also use other varieties such as Granny Smiths, Honeycrisps, Pink Ladies, or Fujis.

About two medium apples are equal to two cups of diced Apples. Peel the apples or leave them untouched. You can choose to peel the apples or not.

This recipe can be made gluten-free using oat, spelled, or white flour. Almond flour and coconut flour have not been tried in this recipe.

For a sugar-free apple bread, you can use brown sugar, coconut sugar, date sugar that has not been refined, granulated sugar, or erythritol.

To make it oil-free, substitute the mashed banana with sour cream, applesauce, or mashed banana. You can also use softened almond butter instead of oil.

How to make apple loaf

You can make a cinnamon swirl by whisking two tablespoons of milk with the cinnamon powder in a small bowl. Set this dish aside.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease an 8×5 inch standard loaf pan. I also like to cover the bottom with parchment paper. This makes it easier to remove the baked loaf.

If you do not want to swirl, combine the flour with the sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon in a large bowl.

Stir until just evenly mixed. Mix until evenly combined. This apple bread batter can be poured into a loaf pan.

Swirl in the optional topping of cinnamon with a spoon. Bake on the middle rack of the oven for 50 minutes or until the toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean.

Let the apple pie cool. Once the apple pastry has cooled completely, I cover it with a loose cloth and leave it overnight in the fridge or on the counter.

After the excess moisture has evaporated, the flavor and texture of this bread are even better. You can also cover the loaf with a thin layer of plastic wrap but leave a small hole to allow moisture to escape.

After a day, place leftovers in an airtight container. The apple bread is a healthy and light recipe that can be kept fresh for four days.

Slice and freeze leftovers in an airtight container. This will keep them fresh for up to 3 months. Before serving, thaw the bread and reheat it in a microwave or toasting oven.

What is the best way to serve this recipe

It is delicious on its own. You can top the bread with your favorite frosting, almond butter, cream, peanut butter, or Coconut Butter.

For Dutch apple bread or Amish apple cake: Make a glaze using 1/2 cup powdered icing sugar, 1-2 tablespoons of milk, and one tablespoon melted butter or Coconut oil optionally.

You can change the taste by adding a handful of ra, raisins, or coconut flakes. Try substituting some of the apples with pineapple dice.

Ingredients

Apple diced into 2 cups

2 cups of white, spelled, or oat flour

2 tsp of baking powder

1/4 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp baking soda

Half a teaspoon cinnamon

If desired, 3/4 cup of sugar can be unrefined.

Milk of Choice, 1 cup

Low fat: 3 1/2 tablespoons oil or applesauce

2 tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

The cinnamon can be added to the dry ingredients or mixed with two tablespoons of milk and swirled into the loaf just before baking. (For a visual guide, please see the video recipe above). Stir the dry ingredients well. Pour the remaining ingredients into a batter and smooth it into a 9×5 greased pan. Bake for 50 minutes or until the toothpick inserted in the middle of the apple loaf comes out mostly clean. Let cool. Cover with a towel overnight and serve the next day because the taste and texture are even better. The leftovers can be frozen or sliced. Frost with your favorite glaze or icing.
